Like a lot of people, we want to be fitter, stronger, and thinner this year, and who better to show us how than Jennipher Walters, the founder of Fit Bottomed Girls? Jennipher is a fitness expert who works with women to promote health and a positive body image. She spends her time developing fun, enjoyable workouts for women of all ages. We asked her the best way to lose weight and get in shape. She let us in on some of her fitness secrets, and explained the role water plays in getting fit and staying healthy.
How did you get involved in the fitness world?
I played sports in high school and liked to be active, but it wasn’t until I went to college and took a group exercise class, that I was like “Fun! I w
ant to do that!” From there I got certified to teach classes, then as a trainer, and later started Fit Bottomed Girls with my good friend Erin Whitehead. Since then we’ve grown to three websites (Fit Bottomed Girls, Fit Bottomed Eats and Fit Bottomed Mamas) and added another business partner: Kristen Seymour.
Tell us about Fit Bottomed Girls. How long has it been around? Who are your readers?
We started FBG in 2008 after looking around and realizing that women didn’t have a lot of places to go for healthy advice that was fun, effective and promoted a positive body image. After overcoming my own issues with body image, I was passionate to let women know they were so much more than the number on the scale. Since then there is SO MUCH more positive body messaging out there — it’s so awesome. Our readers are mostly women, but we have some guys, too. 🙂
How often will readers see new content up on the site?
Every weekday we post 2-5 new posts — just depends on what’s going on in the fitness world.
With the New Year here a lot of people want to lose weight, how do you recommend they start?

How important is drinking water and how much water should someone drink?
Water is so important — it makes up so much of our bodies and organs and is required for so many different processes in the body. We recommend drinking water regularly throughout the day, and gulping down a little more before, during and after workouts. Instead of aiming for a certain number of ounces (so much depends on humidity, workouts, weather, etc.), we recommend people literally check their pee. If your pee is dark yellow, drink more. If it’s pale yellow, you’re doing great. If it’s clear, ease up on the water drinking.
Should people be working out every day? If yes for how long? Should they have any equipment at home?
Our general recommendation is for people to work out ideally 3-6 days a week, for about 30 to 60 minutes. That said, any activity is better than none and walking is a great place to start.
